Mazha S Muhammed is a student of Hindustani music who started performing semiclassical genres such as Ghazals and Thumris at the very young age across Kerala. Mazha was introduced to Hindustani classical music by Shri. Nalin Moolji, Calicut, Kerala. Seeing her talent in music, Mr. Moolji himself advised her to seek advanced training in Hindustani vocal from an expert. Mazha started her training from Pt. Nagaraj Rao Havaldar, an exponent of Kirana Gharana, at the age of sixteen continued to learn from Shri. Omkarnath Havaldar for 11 years. Later she started her training in Thumri under the guidance of Vid. Ruchira Kedar, a disciple of Vid. Girija Devi. Her Ghazal performances were well received by the audience of Kerala and she has performed on various prestigious platforms including Kerala Sahitya Akademi Book Festival, Thrissur, Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Akademi Music Festival, Palakkad, and Eid special program on the Media One channel. Her passion for Thumris inspired her to pursue her doctoral research from Christ University, Banglore on the same subject. Mazha is a recipient of the prestigious Commonwealth Split-site fellowship 2024 and currently working with Prof. Martin Clayton at the department of music, Durham University, UK.
